In a striking revelation that has sent ripples through the sports community, heavyweight fighter Mohammed Usman of the UFC has come forward, acknowledging his use of banned substances, leading to a significant suspension.
On January 15, 2026, at 10:30 p.m. ET, the Combat Sports Anti-Doping (CSAD) made an announcement detailing that Usman, who holds a record of 11 wins and 4 losses in mixed martial arts (MMA) and 4 wins and 2 losses in the UFC, tested positive for testosterone, which is strictly prohibited under the UFC's Anti-Doping Policy (UFC ADP). This positive result stemmed from an out-of-competition sample collected on September 8, 2025, in Coral Springs, Florida. Usman was originally slated to face Valter Walker at UFC Fight Night 261 on October 11, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. However, due to this positive test, he was pulled from the fight.
As a consequence of his admission, Usman has accepted a substantial suspension of 30 months. CSAD’s statement revealed that Usman not only confessed to using testosterone before the event but also acknowledged prior usage of BPC-157, a banned peptide. Interestingly, the organization noted that Usman initially attempted to mislead them with an inaccurate explanation regarding the positive test results. This effort to deceive prompted a more stringent response from CSAD, which considered doubling the standard two-year suspension. However, after Usman ultimately took responsibility for his actions, they opted for an additional six months instead, culminating in a total suspension of 30 months.
The beginning of Usman's suspension is backdated to October 9, 2025, meaning it will officially conclude on April 9, 2028.
