A website dedicated to naming ICE and Border Patrol employees is under a prolonged and sophisticated cyber attack after the Daily Beast revealed its plan to make public 4,500 names of federal immigration staff. The attack, which began on Tuesday evening and is still ongoing, has overwhelmed the website with malicious web traffic originating in Russia. The timing coincided with the website's founder, Dominick Skinner, announcing his intention to release the names of ICE and Border Patrol agents, following the shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. The attack has overloaded the website's servers, preventing access to the site. While the founder speculated that the attack could be directed by a whistleblower, the source of the attack is still unclear. Despite having DDOS protections in place, such attacks are very difficult to prevent, and the founder admitted that it has happened before and will happen again. The website's founder, Dominick Skinner, argued that the shooting of Good, an unarmed mother, was the last straw for some staffers, and the attack is a response to the public's growing negative view of ICE and Border Patrol agents. The website had already gathered information on about 2,000 federal immigration employees before the attack, and the founder plans to publish the majority of verifiable names, while carving out exceptions for positions like childcare workers and nurses.
